A Short Christian Story - The Rope
A certain man left his home to go hiking on a mountain. He stayed
up in the mountain till evening. The night fell so heavy that it covered the
mountain tops and the man could barely see a thing. The moon and the stars
weren’t giving their light because they were covered by dark clouds. It was
total darkness on the mountain top.
As he tried to make his way down the mountain, he slipped fell
into the air. He was falling at a great speed and all he could see were black
dots as he went down. He felt an unusual sensation take over his body as he was
absorbed by gravity.
Just then, memories of his life on earth flashed through his mind.
He remembered all of his good and evil deeds. He thought about his death and
what could happen to him. Suddenly, he felt a firm grip around his waist which
prevented from falling further. Surprised and not knowing what to do next, he
called out to God, “Help me, Lord!”
Suddenly, a voice thundered from heaven and said, “what do you
want from me?”
“Save me, Lord, I don’t want to die now” he cried again.
“What makes you think that I can save you?” the voice asked.
“you are the greatest Lord and I believe you can,” he replied.
“Alright then, cut the rope around your waist,” the voice replied.
The man was shocked, he couldn’t believe what he has just heard
the voice say. The only thing keeping him alive at the moment, how could the
voice suggest such a thing at this critical moment? There was silence for some
time and the man decided to hold on to the rope with all his strength.
Early the next morning, a rescue team that had gone in search of
the man found him dead, hanging from a rope just a foot from the ground. He was
found frozen and his hand firmly holding the rope.
Never doubt God. He has good thoughts for us, all we have to do is
believe and trust in Him. He can’t lead us astray. If the man had listened to
the voice of God when He said, “cut the rope around your waist,” he would still
