Intriguing Christmas Story For Kids – The Birth Of Jesus Christ
About 2000 years ago in the land of Judea lived
Mary and Joseph. Mary was supposed to marry Joseph, but something extraordinary
happened. An angel of God went to Mary and told her, “Mary you are blessed
among women, the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and you will bear a son. He
would be the son of God and he shall be called Jesus”.
Foreseeing the might be a problem if Joseph
were to discover Mary would be pregnant without his consent, the angel went to
Joseph and told him, “you will marry Mary, she has been selected by God to give
birth to the son of God, and you will be his father”. Joseph did as the angel
had instructed and got married to Mary. Judea at that time was under the Roman
Empire led by emperor Augustus. A decree was passed throughout the empire that
everyone should return to their land of origin and be counted there to ensure
everyone paid tax. Mary and Joseph had to travel back to Bethlehem, their place
of birth. It was quite a distance and Mary was due for childbirth in a few
days. They sought for a place to stay and rest, but all the inns were already
occupied as many people had returned to their hometown to get counted.
They were disappointed but managed to find a
stable to stay. Mary went into childbearing immediately they arrived the stable
and gave birth to Jesus Christ. Many angels appeared, lit up the sky, and sang
beautiful songs praising God. A new star appeared in the sky and led a group of
shepherds in the nearby town to see baby Jesus in a swaddling band lying in the
manger. When they saw Jesus, they bowed down and worshiped him. The shepherds
said that the angels of the Lord appeared to them and said they have sent a
messiah to guide them.
While Mary and Joseph were still taking care
of baby Jesus, King Herod plotted to kill Jesus because he didn’t want any
rival to his throne. An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and
said to him, “Get up and take your family to Egypt, remain there until you hear
from me”. Joseph journeyed with his family to the land of Egypt and remained
there until the death of King Herod. The angel of the Lord again appeared to
Joseph and told him to return to the land of Israel, that the people who wanted
to kill Jesus are no more. Joseph took his family back to the land of Israel
and dwelt in the town of Nazareth.
